Monsters?

When I woke up this morning I heard a buzzing sound down to my left. I leaned over the edge of the bed and sleeping on the floor of my bedroom is my 4 year old daughter Danielle. She is tangled in a thick white down comforter with her legs exposed revealing the fact that she is wearing nothing but Dora the Explorer underpants. She is sound asleep with her mouth wide open and snoring softly.

I feel my heart warming to see her sweetness first thing when I wake up. She can’t stand to be away from me for too long and often will find a reason to end up in my room. About a year ago I would no longer let her sleep in the bed with my husband and me, so typically we will wake up with her on the floor of our room somewhere.

Last night my husband Bill asked her why she was afraid of sleeping in her own room and she quite matter of factly told him:
“Daaad, I’m not afraid until the monsters come out”

To which he quickly replied, “Danielle, there are no monsters in our house, why do you think your mom takes off all her makeup every night before bed?” she looks at him questioningly and he continues “so she can scare all the monsters away.”
