Where is Devon??

Danielle has been talking about her brother a lot the last couple of days, we think she’s finally starting to miss him. But where is the crazy 5 year old brother? Devon has been staying with Grandma Sandi,  and having a blast. Hardly misses mom and dad, but gets so excited to hear their voice on the phone. Grandma and him have been running around town together and his new favorite store is…Goodwill!

Devon and Grandma will be visiting this weekend, however, Danielle and Devon cannot talk to each other in person. Until flu season is over, Devon isn’t allowed into this part of the hospital. Little kids are just germ balls 😉 But there is a little window between the door where they can at least look at each other.

But besides missing the little brother, Danielle is doing great! She’s starting to have an appetite and getting energy to walk around and go to the school that Doernbecher provides. The nurses have been on her about making sure she is taking care of herself each day. Seems like common sense but when you’re sick in bed all day you forget about the little things.

She will add stickers whenever she completes a task
The doctors are wanting her to walk a mile a day, which is 24 laps around the floor. Walking helps prevent her from getting sick and keeps the blood moving. It’s really a struggle to get her out of bed though.

Trying to pull her out of bed
Tonight at 8pm is one week of Chemo. Only 3 more days and then recovery. Thank you everyone for all the love and support, we will try to post more, but everything gets a little crazy during the day!

Send good vibes!

Small Bursts of Energy

Danielle is one of the strongest people I know; she is honest, compassionate and stubborn. But her “miss independent” act does not work when she’s around me, mostly because I force the big sister embarrassing love.

day 5
“Put the book down and love me!”
The last two days she has started to have short bursts of energy, mostly from laying in bed all day and eventually you get antsy. We all tried to take advantage of those moments to see Danielle’s bright personally shine through. She was giggling and laughing as I tortured her with tickles and playing with her stuffed animals. It warmed our hearts to see her smile like this again.

day5-2

With these random burst of energy we really encourage her to try and walk around a little. She fights it every time, really, really doesn’t want to have to move out of bed. Most likely because she’s afraid of getting a head ache or getting sick. But eventually she does and she walked around as fast as she can so she can curl right back into bed.

day 5-1

Everyone is still in high spirits. Send good vibes!

Day 5

Got her to bed a little earlier last night (she does like to stay up all night), and got a good 9 hours sleep. Her platelets were down to 6 this morning, so they did another platelet infusion. (for Ashley- she pooped again!)

Mom brought in sushi last night (surprisingly Danielle ate 6 rolls), and she finished the rest of it this morning. She’s in great spirits and very happy.

Her teacher and kids from her class all sent cards and gifts today. Two big bins of stuff, she was very happy to hear from all her classmates. Thank-you all very much for the support.  Her teacher from last year, Ms. Incrovato even sent up a nice present for Devon-he will be so happy!

Morgan got her out of bed to do 3 laps around the ward, and Danielle did them in a sprint, so she could get it over and back to bed asap. She was quite literally like a horse on its way back to the barn!

Darlene stopped in and brought an angry cat poster & BOO (cutest dog)

I’m not thinking there is anything major today, updates later.
